What's about candidates' propositions in terms of culture ?!

2011 071

When Nicolas Sarkozy wants to create a French department of Culture (probably on the current scheme of the French government tourist office, "Atout France"), Francois Hollande concentrates his efforts on the decentralization of culture in France more than on the democratization of culture proned by this opponent.

Another controversial point, the Hadopi Law which aims at protecting authors' rights on Internet should be remove under Hollande presidency in case of victory.

Both candidates are in favour of the developpement of the patronage, but through differents ways :

- Hollande, through a new state strategy of patronage

- Sarkozy, thought the developement of corporate patronage

To finish, Hollande would reduce the VAT on books and tickets...

...that should give you food for thought... for your next vote !

Happy Birthday AFEV ! !

pas de qThis year, the AFEV which is an association present in Toulouse (but also in other cities of France) celebrates its 20 years.

It was founded in 1992.

AFEV (Student Association of the foundation for the city) is born from the desire to fight against inequality in poor neighborhoods, and create a link between two youths who never met or just a little: children and young people with learning or social difficulties, and students.

In Toulouse, each year during the month of April, the association increased efforts for a cultural and social event "Pas de quartier pour les inégalités".

It's the occasion to show of the inhabitants of Toulouse that students and young people are active and that they are committed to social and cultural causes. Students presents their involvements, they speak about their role in the association and explain the social or cultural events they have organized during the year.

For this special year, the AFEV decided to see the big picture !

The 26th April, at the Zénith of Toulouse, a concert with Sinsémilia, les hurlements d'léo and others groups will begin at 7p.m ! ! And this for only 10 euros !

So, if you want to have a good time and do a good deed, this concert is for you !

Hurry up ! Take your ticket to the FNAC or in supermarkets like Carrefour or Intermarché.

You can also book it on : www.francebillet.com

Do not miss this event !

Toulouse Carnival

At 21:00, just a few couple of flats is lighted in my district, not really out of respect for the “no light day” of Saturday, the 31th, but more owing to the Carnival, a so expected event by inhabitants of Toulouse.

Postponed after tragic events of March, the annual carnival (not really annual in fact) was a huge success this Friday night! Thousands of people parades behind colored and musical floats!

A lot of Occitan associations in favor of diffusion of Occitan language paraded, maybe because of the Occitan meeting of the following day in the place of Europe where for a time, the majority of French will fell themselves as tourist as foreign inhabitants, surrounded with red and yellow flags banners and badges : Welcome to Tolosa !

For their 24th edition the Meetings Cinemas of Latin America of Toulouse will be called                                   "Cinélatino Rencontres de Toulouse"

Lalinda-10x15-Web-Isa

Besides the competitions, the lengths-measurements of fiction, documentaries, short films, you will be shown in the various sections of the particular cinematography. In the section Otra Mirada, there is a selection of movies which investigate new aesthetic territories.

Raúl Ruiz, this genius who died during summer 2011, had come twice to the Meetings. He is paid tribute by spreading a selection of his movies turned in Chile.

Uruguay is a small Latin American country but a big country for the cinema: film-makers' young generation created comedies with the moved humor. You will discover a panorama of last years creations.

Alejandro Jodorowsky's cinema is as well fantastic as the character is unpredictable. A retrospective conceived with the Film library will be shown.

Another parallel section will allow you to discover another face of the Argentine cinema.

The feminine cinema is in honor of this edition with a meeting with Albertina Carri, the program of the courts of the Cuban directors and the colloquium “Of cierta manera”.

From its origins, the festival opened its program to public schools and to local and foreign public. For 5 years, it has proposed sessions for the young audience and this year, movies and meetings are intended for deaf public and hearing-impaired people.

The professional meetings, Cinema under construction, help movies in the stage of the postproduction. Some movies scheduled were selected from famous international festivals.

This program invites you to be curious and to go and discover by yourself among more than 200 movies, curiosities, pearls, authors and countries. Very numerous guests are, as usual, here for you. Go and meet them without shyness from March 23th to April 1st.

Cutural supports of information

bejart_2Before all, in that cultural blog, we wish you to have a view of the major cultural support of information available in your new city: Toulouse, as in France via internet.

A great number of those magazines are free and distributed in some store. But, except if you have a strong addiction to shopping or if you know one of the current store where magazines are available, you need a little luck to find those precious tools.

Among them, the first I would like to quote arelet’s motivandkiblind”. Both little magazines have a local redaction devoted to the search of cultural and artistic events but are available in several cities in the country. The plus is that they have a so pleasant graphics and relevant critisms!

Easier to find,Toulouse cultural Magazine” is available in all cultural places which depend on the Town Hall of Toulouse, even in the swimming pool for the sporty type! In addition to articles about cultural public cultural events in Toulouse, there are some information about the cultural policy of the city and some precious interviews of professionals.

But anyway, as Toulouse – Tolosa in Occitan – is an extraordinary place of culture.

You can also go on site web of those organizations:

-          Music : www.lebikini.com, www.ladynamo-toulouse.com

-          Theater : www.tnt-cite.com, www.halleauxgrains.com

-          Exhibition : www.lesabattoirs.org, www.augustins.org,

For the more frequented.

And if one day, a strange cause you obliged to stay at home (a really good reason when living in Toulouse), you could go and listen “la blogothèque”, a rich site which presents a great number of new groups of music through “take away concerts” for those who don’t live in Paris !

What is art ?

What is art? Paintings like those of Velasquez or Picasso? Sculpture?  Photography?   Is the Art only in museums?   No, of Course! We can find art everywhere! That is why I’ll show you three examples...

lami-sdf-1190520975The first one:  “Art en marge” a pun that means Art made by people that are outside society. “Art en marge” is a project created by the students of the humanitarian association of Toulouse Business School. This project consists in showing that art can be more than paintings or sculptures exhibited in museums.  The students entrust camera to homeless people who take photograph from street. This project is repeated each year and at the end of the year, an exhibit is organized with the most moving photographs. For example, last year the exhibit took place at the museum “Les Abattoirs “in Toulouse.

imagesCA184NJCAnother example is “Street art” . Sometimes, we don’t even pay attention of it but it is present everywhere. Street art is visual art which is present in public spaces. It can include graffiti, sculpture, stencil graffiti, sticker art wheat pasting and street poster art. It is opposed to contemporary public-space artwork. The artists of street art succeeded in challenging art by putting in a new context that isn’t supposed to be artistic: the street. They don’t aim at changing the definition of an artwork but at expressing themselves throughout this sort of art. They want that their work communicate with everyday people about socially relevant themes. They don’t want their work esthetic but they want that their work create emotion. They want it to be expressive. We can admire this sort of art in many places of Toulouse for example in a square between the college and the boulevard Armand Duportal.

The last example is roller and skating. Who can say that this isn’t art? Indeed, freestyle for example is an individual event where creativity is emphasized; it includes jumps, spins and choreographed movements to music. It really impressive when you see some teenagers putting musing and starting their show. There are different sort of artistic rollers skating: there are the figures: when the skaters skate around series of circles with obstacles to show their control and accuracy. We can also admire dance: Skaters (solo or teams) dance in adherence in choreography. They are often skill and perform thanks to an accuracy of steps in different sort of dance. They are good at paying attention to the rhythm and the timing of the music in addition to their performance in figure and dance. In Toulouse, we can often see such shows place du Capitole, place de l’Europe and in many other places.
